History The Helderberg Society for the Aged, began in 1958 as a Rotary initiative, as a direct result of an established community need.
The Society has since grown to 4 frail care facilities, 2 assisted living complexes, 8 blocks of flats and 2 cottage complexes. All these facilities are open to all the people of the Helderberg. Homes, Flats and Senior Rendezvous service centres are situated throughout Somerset West and the neighbouring towns of Macassar, Lwandle and Chris Nissen Park. The people in the care of the Society total approximately 800.
Our residents come from all walks of life. In line with State policy those people who still live in their own homes are actively encouraged to make use of the inexpensive services the Society offers. The Society directly employs 300 people with a further 100 being employed by its full-time contractors.
