About the Helderberg Society for the Aged

Our Goal
Providing quality care, whilst striving towards standards of excellence in caring for the older person.

Our Vision
The Helderberg Society for the Aged, will be recognized by the community and medical profession as leaders in providing professional and enhancing their quality of living with dignity and security within a culture characterized by integrity, commitment, compassion and respect for the individual.

History
The Helderberg Society for the Aged, began in 1958 as a Rotary initiative, as a direct result of an established community need.

The Society has since grown to 4 frail care facilities, 2 assisted living complexes, 8 blocks of flats and 2 cottage complexes. All these facilities are open to all the people of the Helderberg. Homes, Flats and Senior Rendezvous service centres are situated throughout Somerset West and the neighbouring towns of Macassar, Lwandle and Chris Nissen Park. The people in the care of the Society total approximately 800.

Our residents come from all walks of life. In line with State policy those people who still live in their own homes are actively encouraged to make use of the inexpensive services the Society offers. The Society directly employs 300 people with a further 100 being employed by its full-time contractors.

Our Belief's
Older people are an important and valuable part of any community. To maintain a positive self image, people need to remain active in and respected by their community.

Unfortunately, many older people are not afforded the opportunity to share the insights they have gained over many years, nor do they receive the necessary care and security essential to live a dignified life.

The Society is here to provide this and more, by taking their care to heart.

Our Future Goal
To continue providing quality care, whilst striving towards standards of excellence in caring for the older person.
